SWLA Center for Health Services, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit community-based organization, incorporated in 1978. The recipient of a 330 CHC grant, the Center began receiving Bureau of Primary Health Care funding in 1984. Its mission is to provide high quality, comprehensive, primary and preventive health care and support services in a safe environment of caring, respect and dignity in a cost effective manner. The Center operates a facility in Lake Charles, Louisiana and a satellite in Lafayette.
SWLA at Lake Charles is the only federally qualified health center within a five parish- region in Southwest Louisiana. These parishes include Calcasieu, Cameron, Allen, Beauregard, Jefferson Davis. SWLA at Lafayette also is the only federally qualified health center in Lafayette Parish. SWLA is managed by a Senior Management Team comprised of the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Health Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Clinical and Professional Services, and the Director of Development and Outeach. These administrators have a combined experience of 85 years in primary care delivery. The Center is governed by a twelve member Board of Governors, which has full authority and oversight responsibility for the operation of the health center.
SWLA Center for Health Services administrative office is located in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Lake Charles is an urban community with a metropolitan population of approximately 60,000 citizens. In addition, the City of Lake Charles is located in Calcasieu Parish, a large urban community consisting of approximately 180,000 residents.
The mission of SWLA Center for Health Services is to improve access and quality to comprehensive health services, including primary and preventative health services for the uninsured, underinsured, and poverty-stricken populations within the target service area.
The Center for Health Services objectives are as follows:
- To deliver high quality health care services in a cost-effective manner.
- To achieve a high level of customer satisfaction and national recognized standards for continuous quality improvement and positive health care delivery outcomes.
- To provide continuity of care for each patient for every medical discipline.
- To provide a family oriented system of care with emphasis on prevention and health education.
- To operate an efficient health care system that eliminates unnecessary and inappropriate utilization of services.
