American Heart Month

February is American Heart Month, a nationwide observance that spotlights cardiovascular disease and the need for more lifesavers.

In the United States, heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups. High blood pressure is a leading cause of heart disease. Nearly half of U.S. adults have high blood pressure, which puts them at risk for heart disease and stroke. And just 1 in 4 people with high blood pressure has it under control.

Most middle-aged and young adults have one or more risk factors for heart disease, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or being a smoker or overweight. Having multiple risk factors increases your risk of heart disease.

The good news is that there are lots of ways you can prevent heart disease! You can improve your heart health by:

* Eating a heart-healthy diet * Increasing physical activity *Maintaining a healthy weight * Managing stress

* Knowing & controlling your heart health numbers * Getting quality sleep * Not smoking

Being proactive with your health is all in all the best way to live a heart healthy life!
