Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! For 40 years, breast cancer awareness month has helped raise awareness of breast cancer across the nation.
1 in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime; making breast cancer the second leading cause of cancer death, but there is hope.
When caught in its earliest, localized stages, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. Advances in early detection and treatment methods have significantly increased breast cancer survival rates in recent years, and there are currently over 4 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.
SWLA Center for Health Services encourages our patients to prioritize their health by scheduling routine exams and conducting breast self-examinations. Our Primary Care Providers play a crucial role in supporting breast cancer diagnosis and treatment by conducting clinical breast exams, ordering diagnostic tests and referring patients to specialists for further evaluation and biopsy if abnormalities are detected.
