Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and is recognized as a time to increase awareness of breast cancer, emphasize the importance of early detection and support those affected.

Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in American women, except for skin cancers. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime and 382, 640 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.

Men are reluctant to seek medical care due to a mix of psychological, cultural and practical barriers. The core issue is that many men are socialized to believe that needing help, especially for health, is a sign of weakness, which leads to delayed care and worse outcomes.

SWLA Center for Health Services is here to break the stigma most men feel when seeking the medical care they need. Our Primary Care providers are here to build trust and normalize preventative care. They also encourage men to adopt healthier habits; such as nutrition guidance, physical activity, weight management, sleep and stress management, smoking and alcohol reduction and more.
